Filling out the application and meeting with an Adoption Staff Member is the second stage of the adoption process. The application can be completed and reviewed with our staff during your visit, or to save time, you can print and complete an application and bring it with you to Save-A-Pet. The review of the application helps to ensure your intended pet is a good match for your home and to give us the opportunity to answer any more questions that you may have. Once we have reviewed your application, we will arrange for you to meet and interact with the prospective animal.

Adopt-A-Pet, established in 1983, is a not-for-profit, no-kill animal shelter located in Benld, Illinois, registered with and inspected by the State of Illinois. No state or federal funding is received; Adopt-A-Pet is supported solely by memberships, fundraisers and donations.Every year, animal shelters around the country receive more dogs and cats than they can possibly find homes for in their communities. We know what that's like and strive every day to find homes for all of our adoptable pets. While we still have some pet overpopulation issues, our community has done a great job in focusing on the importance of responsible pet guardianship, including spaying and neutering their own pets to decrease pet overpopulation in and around Central Illinois.Adopt-A-Pet seeks interim foster care for orphaned pets, many urgently needing rescue from death row at high-kill pounds.

Medical expenses are fully paid.
Food and supplies provided.

Sadly, the number we can assist is limited to the availability of foster people willing to open their hearts and their homes. Our Everyday Adoption Centers are part of a nationwide initiative to save more homeless pets. Since May 2010, PetSmart Charities has helped save more than 77,000 pets by opening Everyday Adoption Centers in Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Kentucky, Nevada, New Jersey, Ohio, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin. The 18 year old No-Kill shelter currently houses 48 dogs and 52 cats, and has low cost vet clinic for the community, helping those in need to keep their pets healthy and home. CISAR dogs take mobile adoption bus twice a week for classes with an Illinois State University dog behaviorist specialist. CISAR also works with the University of Illinois Spay-Neuter mobile unit, which visits the shelter twice a month .
