If it weren't for those irritating lease restrictions, our apartments would basically look an urban version of the Old Friends sanctuary. But if you have room in your residence (room in hearts goes without saying), then you'll probably want to clear the calendar for Sunday, April 30. Two Chicago-area rescues are waiving adoption fees for eligible dogs in recognition of Adopt a Shelter Pet Day (otherwise known as the greatest day of the year). PAWS Chicago fosters provide a lifesaving service for homeless cats and dogs. Fosters open their homes to care for sick and injured pets, animals having trouble adjusting to shelter life, pets who need work on their socialization skills, or those who simply need time to grow before being ready for adoption.PAWS Chicago provides a lifetime guarantee for every cat and dog in our program. Euthanasia is only reserved for pets who are irremediably suffering, where medical treatment cannot alleviate the condition, or for dangerous dogs who possess a threat to the public, as determined by behavior experts. Our save rate is an industry leading 97+ percent, despite taking in a very high risk population of pets from the city pound. Because of the quality care administered to all of our homeless pets, surrender fees help cover the significant cost of medically caring for, sheltering and adopting out your pet. This year, PAWS Chicago will find homes for more than 6,000 pets in the Lincoln Park and North Shore adoption centers; will spay and neuter more than 18,000 cats and dogs to prevent pet overpopulation; is working door-to-door in Englewood and other under-resourced communities to provide services to help people care for and spay/neuter their pets; and is engaging thousands of people in the cause of saving lives.Petco Oak Park/River Forest
