We Are BARC. This is Our Commitment: To promote and protect public health and animal care through sheltering, pet placement programs, pet ownership education and animal law enforcement. We are dedicated to the humane, efficient, high quality care of animals in our shelter. We care deeply about animals - as an organization and as people. Letter From the Director It is with a growing sense of optimism that I am able to report to the Houston community, that BARC, as promised, is becoming the kind of animal rescue and adoption facility that we all want for our City. Our Mission is for BARC to become the beacon of care and best practices for all U.S. cities. The plan we initiated a little over a year ago is being implemented on many levels, thanks in no small part to the hard work of our tireless and dedicated staff. Their efforts, in turn, are receiving the uncompromising support of our volunteers, the Houston Community and our Mayor Annise Parker. Not only have we added new space, new and much needed resources and improvements to our facility, we are proud to announce that we have recently surpassed our records for live releases. On the digital frontier, we now have a brand new website and well over 1,000 fans on our Facebook page. People and corporations throughout Houston are getting involved by volunteering and by spreading the word. BARC is 100% dedicated to pet adoption. In addition to sheltering and providing veterinary care to all animals brought into BARC, we work diligently to place these animals in new homes. Through continued collaboration and coordination with our Houston Pet Rescue partners and our social media networks, we work day and night to cast the widest adoption nets possible. In addition, we are also providing intensive neo-natal and adult pet fostering programs, along with hands-on volunteer training classes and continuous educational workshops. We have no illusions about the enormity of the challenges we face with animal over-population in Houston, hence our emphasis on educating the public in every way possible. BARC is committed to educating the public by promoting responsible pet ownership. We advocate spaying/neutering, micro chipping, vaccinations, and offer training class services. Campaigns and programs to educate and raise community awareness about these services are ever evolving and ongoing. We invite you to join our efforts to educate the community, care for our animals and spread the word about responsible pet ownership. Together we can reach our goals. We are dedicated to the humane, efficient, high quality care of animals in our shelter. We are BARC. We care deeply about animals. Kindest regards, Alfred Alfred J. Moran Jr. Director, Department of Administration & Regulatory Affairs City of Houston, TX
