The Animal Keeper supports pet adoptions and the San Diego pet rescues. There are approximately 3 to 4 million cats and dogs euthanized annually due to overpopulation. When you adopt an animal from one of the San Diego pet rescues you are potentially saving a life.
Meanwhile, San Diego resident Darrell Jennings walked away from the adoption drive with an 8-month-old pet bunny, whom he named Sebastian.

We are advocates for homeless dogs and cats in San Diego that are at risk for euthanasia. Our goal is to save treatable, trainable, manageable and misdiagnosed animals from San Diego shelters by providing a system of transport, training, fostering and adoption. Our ultimate wish would be empty shelters—meaning that no animal is abandoned and no shelter would need to kill one animal to make room for another. To this end, we are also cheerleaders for robust programs, and TNR (trap, neuter, release) programs for feral cats. Please note: SPOT does not take in strays or owner-relinquished pets, but *The San Diego Animal Support Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization with a primary mission to increase pet adoptions from reputable shelters and rescue agencies in their network.SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The Humane Society is helping hundreds of animals find homes for the holidays by waiving all adoptions fees for all pets thanks to a generous donor. At Helen Woodward Animal Center, we have an ever-shifting list of beautiful dogs, puppies, cats and kittens available through our San Diego pet adoption program. Please check our website daily for updates! At San Diego Humane Society, we rescue and rehabilitate all healthy and treatable animals and have since 2002; however, from time to time, an animal enters our care suffering from a chronic illness, challenging behavior or a terminal disease that deems them unhealthy. Although we know there isn’t much we can do to improve their prognosis, we won’t give up on finding them love. We believe there is a family or person out there who will open their heart and home to these extra special pets. Every animal available for adoption at San Diego Humane Society is special and deserves love, but these pets need special people and we hope it’s you!The second annual Clear the Shelters nationwide pet adoption event brought San Diegans to shelters across the county in search of a furry friend to take home, including to the San Diego Humane Society on Gaines Street where NBC 7’s Dagmar Midcap spoke with locals looking to adopt pets throughout the day. We’re committed to finding you the perfect pet match. We are proud to offer an Adoption Guarantee in case your adoption does not work as planned and you need to return your pet to San Diego Humane Society. There are dozens of homeless rabbits throughout San Diego County awaiting permanent homes. Before buying from a , swap meet, or pet store, please consider adopting from your local or humane society, or from a rabbit rescue organization. Many rabbits are euthanized at shelters annually! By adopting a rescued/ homeless rabbit, you truly are saving a life. In fact, you may be saving many lives because rabbits adopted from shelters, humane societies, and rescue organizations usually are spayed and neutered already, so they cannot create more homeless bunnies.
