I think I cleared up exactly what type of pet insurance Petsmart offers. In fact, it’s a wellness plan that can help dog owners afford the cost of routine and preventative care services throughout the year, rather than paying for it all at once and out of pocket.
I would have never thought about getting insurance for my pets. I think I would get a wellness plan for our next puppy!

I own two wonderful little cats, and I want the best for them. Because of that, and after searching a lot, I’ve found that the services by Embrace Pet Insurance are the best! Their way of charging deductibles and co-pays is the most fair system I’ve found, and their prices are already worth it. Also, they cover a variety of possible problems (especially if you get the Wellness program too), which guarantees that your pets are safe and will get the best treatment. PetSmart pet insurance is provided by Banfield Pet Hospital's Optimum Wellness plan, with 3 options for adult dogs and 2 options for puppies.

Pet owners should purchase pet health insurance to cover those unexpected accidents or illnesses where the cost is unknown -- potentially hundreds to thousands of dollars. Coverage for wellness care where the procedures and costs are predictable should be a secondary concern. Since wellness procedures and products can be planned for and saved for, not all insurance companies offer wellness care benefits. Following your veterinarian's recommendations about wellness care is extremely important to your pet's overall health and well-being. Wellness care prevents disease and allows early detection and intervention that saves lives, reduces suffering, and saves you money because prevention inevitably costs significantly less than treatment. Please get a Wellness Plan AND a Medical insurance plan for your pet. If you can not afford both, get at least the Medical Insurance. It can make the difference in saving your pet’s life.Generally speaking, a Wellness Plan is different from a Health insurance plan. Therefore, they are not a substitute for each other. In fact, they complement each other. We know you want the best medical care for your pet, and access to high quality medicine. We know how costly veterinary medicine can be, specially when it comes to treating sick or injured pets. We know that not everybody has the disposable income to pay for the costly veterinary bills. If you have insurance, you do not need to worry about those bills, and it could mean being able to pay and save your pets’ lives. For most of us, it is easier to pay a monthly premium, than it is to pay a large amount of money at once. So, unless you have a few thousand dollars in a savings account exclusively for your pet needs, we do recommend getting pet medical insurance. In regards to Wellness plans, they are important as well. A responsible pet owner, who does not want to allow finances dictate the quality of medicine your pet must receive, would get both plans, a Health and a Wellness plan. There are companies such as Nationwide who offers a complete package, covering your pet for anything from preventatives and regular check ups, to injuries and sickness. You can visit the Nationwide Pet insurance website to get an instant quote and choose the “Whole Pet” Plan. They do offer both products individually as well, in case you do not want the “combo”. Different insurance companies such as Trupanion, Embrace, PetPlan, and others, can also provide instant quotes.HOUSTON - Most pet owners will do anything for their four-legged family members, but when animals get injured or sick the price tag can be overwhelming.
