Unfortunately we’ve got some sad news as of late. On January 15, 2014 Zuke’s announced that Nestle Purina PetCare acquired the Zuke’s Company. Patrick, the founder of Zuke’s, is claiming that the Zuke’s brand will continue to run as an independent operation and continue to produce treats as they are now. However, with past acquisitions (California Natural to name one) and their track records, that promise only lasts as long as the contract states. Zuke’s, a pet treat company founded in 1995, expects to grow locally after its sale in December to international giant Nestlé Purina PetCare.

Zuke’s started making natural dog treats in 1995. The company website says their philosophy is, “We believe that what’s good for humans, is good for pets.” Their parent company, however, is nowhere to be seen. It seems like they're a small, privately owned company. If you're hiding who you are now by emphasizing old stories, it's a good sign there's something wrong.Back when I was backpacking across Himalayas, in the middle of my climb on Mount Everest, I noticed that my dog could use a quick snack, so I got Zuke's out and… No, that's not what happened, although I wish that would've been the truth. In reality, my Jack Russell is an extremely active pet, so occasionally I'd like to give him healthy treats in between meals as a quick reward for doing something. Those are Zuke's Mini Naturals dog treats. What can keep Zuke's dog treats safe when Nestlé Purina PetCare had so many issues in the past? Just because an ingredient is approved by the FDA, that isn’t any guarantee it isn't harmful. I wish it was! The all natural label doesn't automatically mean it's healthy because even natural ingredients can be linked to problems. That’s why it’s important as a dog lover to look up anything you don’t recognize and read Zukes , like this one.Zuke’s mini naturals dog treats have a semi-moist texture that dogs really love. They are made without the use of artificial flavors, colors or any by-products. They also contain wholefood antioxidants to help your pet maintain a healthy lifestyle with nutrient-rich turmeric, rosemary and cherries. One treat comes with less than 3.5 calories, which helps your dog sustain a healthy weight.I would like to start off the research with the company's profile – Zuke's Treats – because I truly believe that while this is still a business of making money, people involved are truly making a difference with setting up various Dog and Cat Cancer Funds and otherwise supporting the pet community.Zuke was a chocolate lab with excellent taste in treats. One day, the founder of the company and Zuke were having a conversation and Zuke told the founder (Patrick) that he should start his own pet treat company. Patrick, being a brilliant guy (like all people named Patrick), agreed. Soon after, he launched Zukes, an all-American company dedicated to producing high quality treats suitable for the finest dogs and cats.
